Obesity is the most common nutritional or metabolic disorder. This aspect is considered important because it is associated with increased mortality, predisposes to the development of fatal diseases and diminishes the efficiency and happiness of those affected. It is a disease common to the present day sedentary lifestyle in larger number of cases.
Obesity is defined as an excess of adipose tissue due to enlargement of fat cell B.M.I. (Body Mass Index) is used to determine obesity of people. (Measures a persons height and weight)

Excess fat accumulation may be due to imbalance between the energy intake and energy expenditure. There are no specific causes as such but factors influencing area.

Quality of life, High socio-economic group.
Endocrine factors Hypothyroidism, Cushing Syndrome.
Energy Balance : Physical inactivity
Faulty Metabolism : Those with low metabolism tend to get deposit fat in their day, they do not burn up all the calories gained.
Psychological factors : Worry, anxiety, fear, feeling of loneliness, depression and frustration may stimulate the person to overeat.
Change in life – style : The sedentary life – style is one of the main predisposing factors for obesity.
